Quadrant drama
Before I get into this, I feel the need to briefly explain why quadrants are one of the things that I'm tracking in this endeavor. Obviously, the quadrants are a novel concept unique to Homestuck. Because of this, it stands to reason that Hussie has integrated them into what I like to call "critical plot shit." Examining characters' ideas about the quadrants, and of course their relationships within them, is sure to shed light on character traits, among other things. The rest, I will divulge through example on the quadrants tag.
Kanaya: Answer CA
So I bring up the quadrants because in the above linked conversation between Kanaya and Eridan, quadrant drama is discussed. In this conversation, Eridan implores Kanaya to get Vriska to talk to him. Kanaya initially does not know who Eridan is referring to, and this happens:
CA: your no good connivvin fuckin backstabbin girl crush thats wwho
GA: Overstating Our Relationship Wont Make Me Feel Very Cooperative
GA: Its Paler Red Than That Ok
CA: pshhhhhh that is a fuckin laugh and you knoww it evveryone does
So ok, it's established that Kanaya has flushed feelings for Vriska. Then, a little later when Kanaya declines to help Eridan:
CA: wwhatEVVER you are so the vvillage twwo wwheel devvice wwhen it comes to auspisticing
CA: you cant let a grudge go by you wwont stick your busy stem betwwixt so get wwith the program fussyfangs
It's established that Kanaya often auspistices for her friends. This will become rather relevant later with Gamzee. A little later in the conversation, Eridan outright propositions Kanaya blackwise, which makes sense since his and Vriska's ancestors had an epic Kismessitude. SPEAKING OF WHICH:
CA: you could either play along as our auspistice and do a little mediating like you wwere fuckin hatched to
CA: or wwatch she and me devvolvve into fuckin full fledged kismesisses the kind like you dont get once in ten thousand swweeps
This sounds completely ridiculous coming from Eridan because he's such a failure when it comes to romance, but--unbeknownst to him--his ancestor Orphaner Dualscar was actually in an epic kismessitude with Vriska's ancestor, Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. The statement suddenly becomes ironic. Thank you, Hussie.
Eridan and Kanaya's conversation ends with discussion of unrequited Feferi drama, which I don't particularly care about, but which does ultimately result in her and Kanaya's deaths at the hands of crazed!Eridan (or Murder Mode Eridan, whichever you prefer). The details are fuzzy so I'll come back to this, but is it possible that those deaths happened because Kanaya should have been a more thorough auspistice?
