double-headed troll Caegar

Terezi: Sentence the criminal.

What's going on right now is Terezi is roleplaying with her scalemates, with Lemonsnout on trial for reasons. She explains that she will be flipping a DOUBLE-HEADED TROLL CAEGAR in order to decide his fate.

Firstly, the troll Caegar. Clearly Caegar is to Caesar the way Jegus is to Jesus. Hilarious!

A couple panels later, the coin lands on a favorable flip. Terezi taunts Lemonsnout, asking why he looks so happy. Then, she reminds him that she sees no coin because she is blind, and then, finally, hangs him from her tree.

This whole scene, to me, carries a lot of symbolic weight in relation to Terezi's character, particularly her classpect and how it guides her in her decision to kill Vriska. As a Seer of Mind, Terezi (supposedly) is able to understand people's motivations and from that predict their actions, and due to this she does not believe in luck. A coin toss is very luck-related, so it's fitting that she disregards the outcome of the flip.

Not only does she not believe in luck, but she wholeheartedly believes in her own ability to understand the motivations of others and make the right choices. This is why she has already made the decision to execute Lemonsnout, before the coin flip. This demonstrates Terezi's "point A": she has confidence in herself and has no doubts about her ability to carry out justice. This is an attitude that breaks down upon Vriska's murder.

And lastly, the cherry on top of the symbolism pie: of course it's a troll Caegar, because Vriska was Caesar'ed! That is, she was stabbed in the back by someone she thought was her friend.

So there you have it. BAM. Chew on that knowledge for a minute.

vriska serket, terezi: classpect, recurring typos, make her pay, foreshadowing, terezi pyrope, homestuck
