My brother and his soon-to-be-wife have been thinking about names for their baby. They have come up with two names they like if the baby is a girl: Iara or Yasmin. (My brothers and I were supposed to be named Yasmin, whoever was the first born girl in the family

fun post! i have no plans to have kids any time soon but I think about names all the time. i wonder, does your brother have the same last name as you?

Also I like Iara. I wonder how it sounds in Portuguese though. I bet it's pretty. Yay baby!

My brother's second middle name* is Yayra (yah-y-ra) It means "blessing" in my mother's language. Iara kinda reminds me of that.

*yes, we ghanaians have a ton of names. it makes it easy to fake passports and evade taxes and stuff...

Ah yes, then that's exactly what Iara will sound like! That's very cool - I'll tell my brother and his soon-to-be-wife! I like it when names have meanings like that.

I was to be called Jacob or Hannah, depending on gender. My grandmother, Sylvia, died in a car accident a week before I was born and they decided to choose a name that started with the same letter as my grandmother, so I became Sarah.
