i'm going to try not to rant, but i'm going to end up ranting. sorry ahead of time.

it's awesome that you posted that. i have very strong and deep-seated beliefs in a woman's fundamental, inherent right to choose what goes on in her body. i attach no stipulations to that -- i believe you can do whatever you want to, regardless of when you make the decision.

i'm sure, becca, that you anticipated an onslaught of negative feedback after you posted that. this might sound lame, but it's very much representative of voicing your opinion on abortion in any forum. people either feel one way about it or they feel the other -- i don't know anyone who is silent on the topic of abortion.

also, i might be getting into controversial territory and i might make people hate me, but i will add this: i believe that the pro-life movement is a direct and quite obvious manifestation of the radical religious right, and the blatant patriarchal structure of our american consumer-driven economy. i think the image of a dormant housewife, rising only to pump out children and care for them while sacrificing her own (physical and emotional) needs and desires, is a quite appealing one for most middle class working american males. it's just convenient, you know? i think they'd also approve of the aforementioned woman attending the occasional PTA meeting and getting a manicure. living the good life, right? to them, the idea of a woman -- ESPECIALLY an unwed one -- "murdering" an unborn child is disgusting to them. but why? well, i think it's chauvinist and very, very christian, but that's just me.

speaking of religion: when was the last time someone really argued abortion with you and didn't mention the bible? i can't remember a single instance, myself.

so i'm sorry to rant, but i'm glad to see you challenging the norm in the face of potential adversity. this is a long shot, but i live with the lofty hope that someday, people will come to terms with the idea that a woman can make reasonable decisions regarding her own body -- and trust her to do so.
