Nate, i think that through your experience you have seen some of the worst case scenarios for people wanting abortions. i respect your view, and my previous post was not meant to offend. i want to make that clear. i was just posing examples as to why i think that abortion can be right.

as for the "carelessness" issue, i agree with you. if you are careless enough to get pregnant, you deserve what is coming to you, and should face up to your responsibilities as a new mother. HOWEVER, it doesnt seem like the fairest thing to do to a child, letting it end up in a home where it isnt wanted.

in high school i knew this girl whose sister got pregnant and had an abortion. mind you, her sister was not in high school. her sister and her husband were both in their late-20s, and were(/are) both lawyers in DC making fuckloads of money, with a nice house, a loving relationship, and all the trimmings that would make for a perfect family. however, they decided, or rather she decided, that a baby would just get in the way of her career and had an abortion. i think that is an incredibly despicable thing. i dont think abortion should be used as birth control, but rather in extreme cases (rape victims, life-threatening health problems, etc), though i still support the rights of women to abort for any reason.

personally, i have 2 dogs that act like 2yo children, and that's enough to scare me into being VERY careful not to get pregnant. stella and blanche are enough responsibilty for me, thank you. however, if i were to get pregnant (which my bf jokes about CONSTANTLY), i would keep it. if you asked me 2 years ago, or even six months ago, there would have been no doubt in my mind that i would have aborted though. i wouldnt have been mature enough or financially stable enough to properly support the kid, and i think i would have ended up resenting the situation for interfering with my plans (and i know how selfish that is), so i wouldnt have kept it. i think that would have been the responsible thing to do for the child's sake though, as i would have been quite the unfit mother.

in closing, i just want to say that i find it VERY admirable that you do volunteer work for Rock For Life. i wish you the best of luck.

ps. i dont think you are an idiot. ;)
