Well, I guess it also depends on what a person believes in. In his book The God Delusion Richard Dawkins makes arguments that the chances of something existing beyond our material world isn't 50/50 all things considered, and he has some valid points. In his opinion universe and our existence just doesn't need god etc. to be explainable. I have existential crisis' every now and then and sometimes there is the need to believe in some "more" than plain mortality - not in any god as such, but some continuity after death - but the need to be honest to myself overweighs that, and thus far the evidence in my eyes are more on the side of there not being any such thing as afterlife or something beyond. I'm not saying that I know - or even that I think I know - for sure that there isn't, for I don't, but since there really is not any way to know for sure (yet at least), I think it really is a matter of personal faith or analysis.
I might have missed the point/strayed from the subject and I'm babbling again (I do that). It's around 3.30 a.m and I propably couldn't make coherent speech even in my native tongue.
Yeah, I've watched SG1, but not in years. I've intented to for I haven't seen the last couple (?) of seasons. I like drawing and such myself, but rarely seem to get around to it. Don't seem to get around doing much of anything, for that matter...
Hey hey their I never said anything about any god!!........Lol Richard Dawkins. I know the book of which you speak, but his arguments only really address the matter of god not spirituality. I never grew up with any religion so I don't really think in to terms of belief. What with quantum theory, string theory and theoretical physics is finding that our world is not one that is stable and inert. For instance they just found a new particle (but that particle was always their). Basically a lot of these phenomena could exist and occur all the time but have no way of being proven or studied by our science. For example phantasmal creatures like mothman and black shucks (giant black spectral dogs) may be some kinds of inter-dimensional creatures. That and if you think of near death experiences one good hole in the logic that they are created by a dieing brain miss firing is that frequently they are incredibly rich and complex experiences (and diverse) not the kind of thing a dieing brain should be able to produce.
Would you like to see some of my stargate art? Oh and the later seasons are good by the way. With Cameron its a different dynamic but still just as good but different. Its a young fly-boy leading a team of battle hardened veterans. Plus theirs Vala.
Next episode looks good...and Reid has short hair again. (That hair cut reminds me of public enemy and 1920s punk thing don't know why...maybe its the vest.)
No, no you didn't :) I like discussing things and changing views, there's really no reason to offend/get offended. I've just been very tired and apathetic with life in general and my internet connection isn't living up to the expectations. Actually I should be getting a new one later this week but I'm not just ready to get my hopes up yet.
I know you weren't speaking about any intelligent designer (god) and were propably referring to secular spirituality or such, and were just thinking within the realm of possibilities which is always exciting. I just extended RD's writing to be about any immaterial things. That universe doesn't necessarily really need any such explanations to function, or to be explainable. I don't think that scientists, for example Dawkins, lack imagination, the capability to think outside the box. They just wish to follow the scientific principle and not be blinded in the course of discovery, whatever that may be. I appreciate that.
What I mean is that there are things that we can't explain yet but it doesn't mean that they would have to be somehow unexplainable, "magical" or beyond the laws of the universe, it's just our view/understanding of it that is limited. Basically I believe that we are talking about the same things but just from slightly different stances and with different terms. Personally I find the word spirituality too easily mixed up with religious uses that I don't like to use it myself. I tend to think myself as agnostic.
That said I too like things that are "far out", I think that's one of the requirements for being able to enjoy science fiction etc. The X-Files is a eternal classic in my mind. I just think that in real life the line between keeping an open mind and seeing what one wants to see can get blurred. And I wouldn't want that happening to me.
Couple of days ago I read about this neurosurgeon who died/"died" and had NDE and is supposed to publish a book about it this fall(?), you might have heard of that... I haven't read that much about NDE's, but I got curious. Generally I tend to remain skeptic towards NDE's, I just think that human brain is one of those things that we don't know well enough. When it comes to the human brain it's a bit like the questions about the universe, it's not a question of yes or no or a matter of opinion, it's more like a mystery to be solved. That's were the fascination is, for me.
But I do have to add that despite all that in rl I'm a more artistic personality rather than scientific onel. I like to ponder at things but I can't get my head around mathematics, physics etc., I just enjoy reading about the results. I'm more at home in a world of humanities & arts where there are no exact answers, where it's more philosophical.
About your fanart, just post me links (:
As one can guess I haven't seen CM 8x02 yet and it annoys me to no end. Are there promopics etc for the ep? I haven't seen new pics of MGG with short hair... I too liked Reid's shorter hair (short at back, longer at front) and thought it was a bit post punk completed with his general attire. What's not to like.
Sorry it took awhile to reply I got distracted by life, had a case of the shyness and had to think how to reply. Dawkins just kind of annoys me for lots of reasons first listen to another great audio book called the age of empathy. It talks about how his book the selfish gene made things hard for people studing emoutions in animals and also synical athiest dad likes him too much. Also his western bias is annoying.
With the paranormal its not about explaining anything. It just seems to be. However what all things paranormal have in common is that they defy explanation. Personally I think that once you eliminate the bs they may be phenomena that are just part of the natural world that we can not yet study. I recomend this radio show its fun. http://mysteriousuniverse.org/
Liked the last episode a lot. had some great morgan x reid momments.
Seems I got a habit of late replays... I took a dowfall with my drinking, had some trouble whilst quitting, but I've been sober now for few weeks and just trying to get things together again.
I didn't even follow the new eps after the 4th for I didn't feel up to it, so I watched 7 episodes in a row yesterday to catch up :) while I liked some eps, it doesn't really look that bright for H/R shipper. Unless one is a serious conspiracy theorist :D I mean the 11th had some eye contact scenes but at the same time it was the ep to deal with R & "his girl", and mentioned Beth. It almost feels like it's intentionally scripted to sabotage the ship, but I tend to get paranoid with things :D
