Busan, South Korea - May 2008
streetlife - On May 3, tens of thousands of protesters gathered together at various demonstrations around South Korea to protest the suspension of a ban against US beef. The relaxing of the ban has been reported to be a direct result of pressures from the US government in order to gain settlement of the proposed Korea-US Free Trade Agreement, which is pending in the legislatures of both countries. The ban was put into place in December 2003 amid growing fears of the presence of mad cow disease in US beef.
