I have often said that Sam is the soul of the show, where Dean is the heart, and you can't have one without the other.

I prefer to think of Sam as the brain of the show and Dean as the groin.

Ahem. Only kidding... Sorry, way to cheapen you meta!

And yes! Sam's still taking his journey, and if you ask me Dean's further along down the road than he is. Sam's still struggling with his powers and his place in the world and his nasty, nasty revenge issues (imagine season one Sam saying he'd want Lilith's head on a plate?). And I love the whole Sam/Ruby dynamic because I sneakily suspect she loves him and doesn't know what to do with the feeling, being a demon 'n' all. How would he respond if she told him how she felt? Man, the possibilities! (I should add that I'm not a Sam/Ruby shipper and I don't read Sam/Ruby fic or anything; I just like how it's playing out in canon, actually on the screen.)

Oh, and as for Sam and the angels - I got a chill when he shook Castiel's hand, I know that much. I'm dying to know where that relationship is going. Nowhere rude, I'm sure, despite my gutter brain, but it's just so interesting. Sam and Castiel sitting down and having a chat about life, the universe and everything would be a dream to watch.

Plus there's the wonderful, wonderful fact that Dean's already turned evil, torturing countless souls in Hell and enjoying it, and the angels forgive him... whereas Sam hasn't done anything yet and they don't like him at all. So unfair!

Damn you. DAMN YOOOOOOU. *shakes fist, Shatner style*

I'm not a shipper for them either - but no, I agree. I love the whole tragic aspect of their relationship. He clung to her while Dean was gone, but now Dean is back and he doesn't really need her anymore. So where does that go? Is she 'dumped', does he try and make Dean accept her? Will there come a point where she tries to make him chose and finds out where Sam's real devotion lies.

Me too. I wasn't like everyone else - I didn't think Castiel wasn't all, 'Ew demon hand!' I seriously think he was like, '....ah, what are you doing with your hand ... there .. oh, I'm supposed to take it!' And look how he took it. One hand clasped, the other one over it. Like he was offering a blessing over it. I could almost see the little 'be good Sam, be good ' overtones in that gesture.

I totally believe a chat between Sam and Castiel would bring so much dynamic to an already fraught situation.

I have my OWN theories about that whole 'Dean liked torturing people' thing, because you don't deal out that much pain and enjoy it, and then come back and HATE YOURSELF that much without something else going on.

It was the way Castiel used two hands that made me think, "Aww, these two really need a chat." It WAS almost like a blessing, you're right. I think Cas really wants to like Sam because Sam's important to Dean, and that was a little hint.

Pray share! I'm intrigued!

Yeah, and he's just ... okay, seriously, that moment for me was a little hilarious. Castiel's all, 'how do I take your hand, oh that's how, ah, what do you say in situations like this? Right, right, thank him for not being evil anymore.' Like a really elderly aunt who asks what all the 'cool kids' are up to these days.

All right, they put Dean on the fast track to demon-world, right? Stuck him down in the worst part, tortured him and tore him apart, because they needed to break him. He's important to Heaven and they need to take him out. He's down in the depths. The Depths, of Hell.

... how the hell did Castiel find him? Seriously. They just didn't leave him out to be snatched. He wasn't just chilling somewhere having a hot dog and a soda and Castiel yoinked him up. Dean may have enjoyed Hell - but I think? I think he might have been praying the entire time to be saved, even when he thought he wouldn't be.

Awww, I think that's a really lovely idea! It's an idea that makes me want to go "Oh, Dean," too. Perhaps after everything he still managed that tiny, tiny ray of faith despite never having had any in the world above. And that would be very Dean, after all - hard on the outside, soft and mushy in the middle. Even in Hell, he had a heart.

I'm also intrigued that Castiel seemed to have pulled him out so easily - if he was no match for Alastair, how are we supposed to believe he was a match for all the demons of Hell?

Also? Castiel totally should've said "I'm the one who gripped you tight and yoinked you from Perdition."

Even in Hell, he had a heart.

Exactly. How else, after all, could it continue to be broken?

See, there's the thing, he had to have been a match for Alastair, because he was all, 'And I take you out with Angel-fu - uhm - why isn't this ... working? Ohcrap.' Maybe he just didn't run across a demon of Alastair's calibur in Hell, or maybe he was thrown off by the Anna situation. Hell, maybe he was thrown off because Anna had her hand on Dean's mark and his mojo got all messed up. There's more going on with that, and I'm sure Kripke will let us know.

Eventually. The bastard.

Yoinked is a good word. They totally should have. If I get a free trip on-set I'll let them borrow my genius.

My take on the whole 'angel-fu not working' thing was that Alastair was far more powerful a demon than he'd ever encountered before - hence his surprised look. I assume Alastair's coming back (how could he not? He was wonderful!) so perhaps we'll find out then why Lilith is scared of Sam and Alastair isn't. Is Alastair working with Lilith or against her? Wagh!! Too many questions!

Yeah - I can see that happening. Of course I would LOVE to see Alastair get his ass handed to him by Castiel at some point, just for trying to get his demon hands on Dean again and Castiel just going,'Fuck Angel-fu, I take a stick to your head and Beat You With The Might Of The Lord.'

But that's only because he got all handsy with Dean.

Maybe that's why Lillith is opening up the gates of Hell, because Alastair's taken over and Alastair is a bad, bad man.

You should totally write dialogue for Castiel. I would love to hear someone on primetime US telly announcing "Fuck angel-fu, I take a stick to your head and Beat You With The Might Of The Lord." It sounds like something out of South Park!

Maybe Lilith wants Lucifer as a back-up against Alastair, then? God, so many theories, so long to wait to find out!

I have to know, BTW: who is the chap in your icon? He's got such a cheeky face...

...God, I would probably PAY Kripke if he let me write dialogue for Castiel. If only so I could do things like;

Castiel: *picks up the tire iron that Dean dropped, approaches Alastair with a clear Hate-On * Destroy you? Destroy you? You shall not have that mercy, Demon. Fuck Angel-Fu. I shall smite you with this stick of metal, and beat you with the might of the LORD. *starts beating the ever loving crap out of Alastair *

Dean and Sam: *stare at the angel, and mutter together * Well ... damn.

Maybe! Too much! Too many questions! Thank goodness there aren't any strikes to take important episodes away!

That cheeky fellow is the ever gorgeous Jack Davenport, my favorite actor.

I did wonder if it was Jack, but he looks so different! I prefer him with teh Hair of Floppiness myself.

And GOD, what I wouldn't give to see that conversation on the show. Sigh...

I love the floppy hair too! But that smile gets me every single time.

Seriously. It would be beautiful, if they let Castiel just go all VENGENCE and humanlike on Alastair. Mmm.
