Forget Gollum Doctor. For that matter, forget Space Jesus Doctor. Forget Jack as the Face of Boe (WTFBBQ?). Forget the Master not being Delgado or Ainsley or anyone else but John motherfrakking Simm.
One year later set the terms for us, guys. Everything had changed.
The Doctor was planning, plotting, and in the end, he had plan C! ...god, plan C was crack, but anyways.
Martha and Jack both went through amazing hardship, and in the end? Came through better people. How much do I love that they both walked away from the Doctor? Almost as much as I loved the Master.
I watched Lucy Saxon earn a motherfrakking OSCAR by faking her way through what had to be painful and humiliating insanity, so she could come through for Escape Plan ... if I'm counting right, Escape Plan E. Also, silently flipping the bird to the Doctor. If she can't have the Master, no one can.
The Master - in total sum - exactly what I expected. Brilliant, completely BATSHIT, but never surrendering and in the end, overcoming death. (I know what that ring means - I know Lucy picked it up - I know we might indeed, just see John Simm again.) And it's a whole new world, kids. Nine and Ten have proven that. So has the Master. You don't have to re-generate if you don't want to - and maybe, just maybe, you can make yourself be whatever you want to.
The Master having his own Evil Overlord Playlist? For the total win.
Besides, c'mon guys! It's Doctor Who! The Daleks have plungers for guns! Enjoy the insanity, I know I did.
