Preserving and Defending Liberty

I just finished watching "1776".  That really stirs American pride in you.  I love the United States, and I love being an American.  One thing I felt while watching the film: Our Founders saw it as their duty to obtain independence from the British tyrant, King George.  It is our duty today to preserve and defend that liberty that they risked their ( Read more... )

“He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.”

Remember Obama's meeting with the Republicans over Health Care in February? It was an all day event.

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”

All those czars Obama appointed seems to prove this point.

“For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent”

All that Marxist legislation is going to cost us. Our taxes will go up. And the majority of Americans were against him on this Communist legislation.

“For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments”

He is bringing about the "fundamental transformation of America". Capitalism (freedom) to Communism (tyranny)

If we close our eyes to what is happening, we run the risk of losing everything so many have died to preserve. I closed my eyes to what George W. Bush was doing. Let's not make the same mistake with Obama.

I'm not trying to say if some of that is true or not (I think of some of that may or may not be debatable, but that's just my opinion). I just, generally, try to avoid to compare political figures to people who are generally disliked in history. Since Obama was elected, I think that makes him different from King George. And I think that the taxes that King George demanded were very differet, too.

Having said that, I'm not trying to say that I think you're completely out to lunch or anything. I really do respect your political views (regardless of whether we agree or disagree), and I hope you know that. I just think that some of the Obama bashing has gone a bit overboard. Not to say that I'm trying to say that about you (I'm not), but I've heard many compare the man to Hitler. And I do think that that might be a bit much (again, in my opinion).

And I wasn't just this way about Obama. I was the same way about Bush, too. Even though I wasn't crazy about many of his policies, I was never one to say that he was "a terrorist who was just as bad as Osama Bin Ladin" or anything.

I really hope that I didn't offend you or anything with my last post, because I swear that wasn't my intention. I was trying to be more or less lighthearted with my reply, but I'm not sure if that showed or not. Basically, I generally avoid ever getting into this subject with anyone. I do often have opinions about political matters, but 99.9% of the time tend to keep my mouth shut about them. I'm not sure why I do that, but I do.

Again, I hope I didn't offend with this post or my last post. I do respect your views, and wasn't trying to start a "debate" or anything. And it's quite possible that I'm going overboard with my appology here and might be blowing this whole thing a bit out of purportion. But, I do hope that there are no hard feelings.

I may be overstating it a bit, but I think too many Americans are letting our government get a bit too powerful, and many need things kind of overstated. I hope I am grossly overstating it. It'd be much better than the alternative. I didn't want to be like those Bush bashers. I don't think Obama is pure evil. I just think he's too inept and not competent enough to be President.

As for your response being lighthearted, I did notice your smiley. I just take this extremely seriously. I believe it's our duty to preserve our independence. We have to stop this Communist/socialist nonsense. It doesn't work, and it will be our fault if freedom is eliminated.

Again, I hope I'm overstating things. Progressivism is an ugly problem.
