The First

It's official. Overlanders are the laziest species, ever. I have to aide in their little war, just because they don't know how to defend for themselves? Do they really think I'm just going to play along like a good little girl, when I finally got what I deserved?

Not to mention this place is a dump. Someone of my standards deserves ( Read more... )

Oh, you're the Grandmaster's sister? It's nice to meet you. My name is Rose.

And I see you're the mouse he spoke of.

...Similar to the species, and yet not.

Oh, yes.

... Actually, normally I'm smaller than this. I'm twice my usual age at the moment - for the same reason Grandmaster Kragok looks like a child.

The same reason being...an unexplainable phenomenon?

After seeing so many things I couldn't explain in any other way happen here, I've found it's usually easiest to think of it as magic. Most of the people here are younger or older than they usually are right now. Usually things get back to normal within a week.

And there is no way to control or study this so-called 'magic'?

Oh, no, there seem to be a lot of ways. It's just that the world I come from doesn't have magic, so I really can't explain it.

And when something like this happens, there isn't usually much warning, so it's difficult to stop it. And it probably means someone's either lost control of their magic or they're pulling a practical joke.

Would you say this is the former or the latter?

Not knowing who's responsible, it's difficult to say... But if it's focused like this, it's probably deliberate. Normally these things affect everyone at least slightly differently. A couple of weeks ago someone lost control of a spell and changed everyone - I spent the week as an angel, one of my roommates was a horse, and another started forgetting things.

...That's madness. And those in charge ave done nothing?

I wouldn't normally say this, but the people in charge are a bunch of incompetent... *insert a long stream of imprecations here that most of Rose's friends would be surprised she even knew; she's nearly in tears by the end*

I... I'm sorry. It's just... a lot of things have happened to my friends in this place that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I suppose I just...

No, really. I... You shouldn't have had to listen to that, I don't normally lose control like that.

Never mind. Um, you were saying?

In my line of work, dear, I've heard much worse. Think nothing of it.

*small laugh* From what little Grandmaster Kragok's told me, I can imagine that.

Would you care to elaborate on your relationship with the Grandmaster?
