I figure I might as well share my little trip to the Bay Area, at least for the sake of writing something.
The trip itself was uneventful. My flights were on time and I didn't have to deal with any annoying seat mates. The only down side was that I had a four hour layover in Phoenix, and I'm sorry to say that it is really not a very interesting airport, quite frankly it's a fairly poor design (lots of walking and only limited gate seating.
A friend of the family, Mark, meet me at baggage claim and drove me back to there place in the Richmond district. It has been a number of years since last I was in San Francisco so it was a nice little tour. The rest of the day was mostly uneventful. Mark and I went for a Fat Tire at a local coffee shop while his son, Luke, walked a friends dog. It's funny, every time our paths cross Luke and I are at the same ages, i.e. Luke is a sophomore last time I went out I was a sophomore, and 13 and 8. So Mark is in the habit of quizzing me on my life to make sure Luke isn't too far beyond the 'norm'. On a side note I saw the best sign in the world in Japantown. It was a samurai or Mongolian holding a giant tooth brush, and of course I didn't have my camera... But yeah. Watched Shaun of the Dead that night, they had just seen Hot Fuzz and I recomemded SotD. Not realizing how much gore is really in that movie so a little embarrassed
The day of the interview was nice, I made my bus with ease and found the office quicker than I had expected. Short interview, blah blah, tell me about yourself, Blah blah, why do you want this internship, blah blah, Lunch time! We made small talk over lunch and I thought it went well and having a free $50 lunch just made it better. We finished around 12:30 so the rest of the day was devoted to sightseeing. An interesting fact: dress shoes do not make very good walking shoes. Saw all the big stuff, TransAmerica building, Coit tower, the Embarcadero, Pier 39, etc. The rest of the evening was fairly relaxed. Watch Hot Fuzz (pretty good), some friends of theirs stopped by for dinner, all in all good times.
My flight home left at 3:30 so I had to be at the airport at 2:30. So Mark and I went for a walk out at Lands End, a perk west of the Golden Gate bridge, it was very pleasant. Mark, Lisa(wife), Karis(daughter), and I went out for a light lunch and beer because I am apparently a beer snob, I know what I like ya know? The place I went for lunch had this great 4 cheese baked macaroni with truffle sauce. If anyone decides to come visit me over the next 3 months I will totally treat you to it!
The flight home sucked because my DS died and my first plan was late then my last plane was delayed back and forth 4 times!
So it looks like I have the internship for 90 days and I'm not sure so much after that. But the pay is good and I have a place to stay, so good times! PLus now I have an excuse to buy a trench coat! Next time I'm out I'm getting a photo of the Samurai dentist.
