NOI and hiphop
Courtesy of African talk radio network, have just finished listening to an audio podcast by Militant minded radio (hyperlink to radio station's RSS feed) about the impact of the Nation of Islam on hiphop (especially during the "golden era"). Brought back some memories: some of the first hiphop records I heard that referred to NOI were KRS (about how he read 'Final Call', maybe in his album 'Edutainment') and Public Enemy. As mentioned in the podcast (and made me smile), those were the days when you consulted a dictionary to learn something new about what a rapper had said...
