[phone a; no filters]

So, thanks a lot for dragging me out into the snow on your ridiculous snow day and everything. I'm glad I had the opportunity to go out there and catch a cold from somewhere or someone or something. Because I obviously needed a real and legitimate reason to skip school for once. It's just wonderful, really.

[Having listened to the whole message, Cain fiddled a little with the cord at his end in silence for a while. Offering what he could do was outside the remit of a normal ten year old, and yet Abel had said he needn't hide any longer and it could be useful...]

If I can find some wiring and tools at the hardware store, I can make either radios or walkie talkies for DA use?

You mean like handheld radios?

[What is technology.]

Right, something very similar.

The parts here are limited, but I might even be able to make earpieces and receivers... but that's only a possibility.

Earpieces..?

It may be possible to find someone who can generate better parts with the mix of people we have here, but I'd be wary of that. It would all vanish the moment those people were droned.

I can't buy things at the hardware store, I'm not old enough, but if you buy whatever supplies you can that isn't tied to any one person then I'll give it a go.

I'll see what I can do, but I may not even know where to begin with that.

I'll write you a list and bring it over, okay?

That could work.

[And lead to an hour or two of staring at things in the hardware store, but he won't admit that much.]

Are any of the parts you'll need in the machines that our houses already have?

If you have a toaster could you bring that along? Otherwise, we can try and do it without cannibalising too many household appliances.

[And he proceeds to dictate a list of things he needs to Caesar; including wiring of various lengths and thickness, bits of scrap metal, a small motor, and several batteries.]

Why not? Anything originally a part of one of these houses will just reappear in a day or two. Ah... I thought you were going to bring a list over...

[You're making him do stuff, Cain. How cruel.

Not that it stops him from finding a pen and paper to start writing things down. He'll have to guess on some of the spelling here, which makes for a humorous looking list at least.]

You can take down the list now, it's much easier for both of us.

[And he keeps on dictating it, poor Caesar.]

When you've got all you can get, just bring it round to 1648 Albright Lane and we can make the communicators.

[Can you hear that oh so put-upon sigh from his side of the phone? Of course you can.]

...fine, fine. [Once the list is done, he'll look it over. This is going to be an interesting trip.] Okay. I'll see what I can do about all of this.

I'm sure you will do admirably! Just call around when you're done.

[And with that, he hangs up to await Caesar's presence.]

[Oh. He hung up. Did Cain think he was going to go get this stuff now? It's that thought that prompts Caesar to call back.]

It's Caesar again. I hope you aren't expecting to get these anytime soon, because I'm not going out into this weather still sick...
