They say old souls can be seen through the eyes. Jack has seen a lot of old souls, but none like the doctor or himself. When he first saw Peter he'd thought he was the Doctor's next regeneration. He had the look of a man who had lived more than one life.

After he'd made a fool of himself treating Peter like an old friend, and Peter had asked him if he was a messenger of Aslan they had both chosen to ignore their pasts. It was refreshing to both of them not to have to explain themselves. They both lived other lives and they both knew that some things were better left unspoken.

Sometimes it was easier to live in the present than to be forced to relive better times.
