Whatever it was, it required them to hook up with two other cruisers, the Odyssey and the AtlantisWhen they reached their assigned conference room, there were two officers wearing command gold and captains' stripes talking with each other, although from the way they were first practically lip to lip and then sprang apart 'talking' wasn't the only they they were interested in. Both were easily fifteen years older the Jim; one looked like any of the dozens of farmers he had left back on Earth, and the other had pointy ears but also had haircut that a Vulcan wouldn't be caught dead with ( ... )

"Check this out."

A black notebook hits the table in front of Crawford with a slap, and Schuldig's long index finger follows. He underlines the words on the cover as he speaks: "Death Note."

"I can read," Crawford says dismissively, edging the notebook away from his plate. "I thought you were going back to the car."

"I was, but then I found this," says Schuldig. "Flip it over."

Crawford picks it up again, scans the letters on the back for a long moment, and lets it fall. "You bought a prefabricated black list," he says dryly. "Congratulations. Is this for your own personal use?"

Schuldig leans down and props his elbow on the table, and Crawford's coffee splashes over the edge of his mug in response. "Because it works," he grins. "You think I didn't try it?" He opens the cover and pushes it back to Crawford.
