Mar 16, 2009 13:43

If you've spent any amount of time here on comment_fic, you know we have a few issues in the area of Lonely Prompts. For any given day we have lots of prompts that go unwritten and end up in our Lonely Prompts index ( Read more... )

I agree about pimping the comm to a wider audience. While I can't fault some for being more popular, I think there could be more participation if some of the smaller fandoms (or ones that are fairly large) were tapped into to generate more activity.

As I said below, we encourage pimping, both within your own journals and in comms (that allow it) that we, your mods and code monkeys/llama don't know about.

A part about this comm that tickles me no end is the number of new/unusual fandoms/pairings I've found.

I agree, it needs to be pimped out more. What fandoms/pairings do you like? You can fill your own prompts, you know. It's hard that there's so much for Leverage and Leverage RPS and ANY RPS, cos I'm not in either of those fandoms either, so I make do with Merlin and SPN.

Ooh, the idea about limiting prompts to fandom is even better.

I'm not sure about limiting prompts to a single fandom is a good idea, although any guest host is welcome to do so on one of their days.

You can, as you say, fill your own prompts, and you can pimp out the comm, or even just your prompts to your friends list, who presumably likes the same things you do.

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. There're are just waaaaaaaaaaay to many for some fandoms. I think the idea of limiting the number of prompts you can leave to the ficlets you write is an excellent idea. It should mean more ficlets being written.

But what of those who leave us awesome prompts, but don't/can't actually write? Do we exclude them completely?

I don't at all think we should exclude those who can't/don't write. But it might help FOR NOW to limit the number of prompts per fandom per day that anyone can leave. It also might encourage more people who can/do write to actually write and not just lurk/prompt if they know that they can leave one more prompt for every unanswered/lonely prompt they write.

Certainly not. Just limit the amount of prompts being posted. Because unless you want them to keep going out of control, you have to take some measures.

Yeah, I get what you mean. But maybe if you post prompts for it, and fulfill one or two you'll get other people into it. *shrugs* I don't know. I'm mostly into bigger fandoms. I kind of stick to one or two fandoms at a time.

We, the Mods and Code Monkeys, have done a fair bit of pimping in the fandoms that we know and are familiar with.

The problem is, we don't know every fandom or what comms allow pimping, etc.

Therefore, in the sidebar of the comm, you will notice a link called "Help Pimp Us Out!" (used to be "so you want to be a pimp"). We encourage all of you, whether your a prompter or a writer or both, to introduce us to your fandoms, pimp us out in your journals to your friendslists, etc.

One thing to keep in mind though is that bringing in new people will also increase the number of people leaving prompts...so just pimping alone won't solve the problem.
