They rooted out his identity, exposed him.
He'd tracked them long enough to know their track record with things that go bump in the night- things that killed and tortured, raised hell and ruined lives.
They had heart, but no sympathy for things that screwed with humanity.
And each other? Well, everyone knew how then went.
And there was Gabriel, who led them in circles, trapped Sam in endless Tuesdays of watching the person who was everything to him die over and over again. He tricked them, toyed with them, trapped them in a TV show.
Then they trapped him, hammered at his walls...
Then let him go.
Just like that. It wasn't forgiveness, or a peace treaty. They didn't make matching friendship bracelets, or demand he help them.
Thousands and thousands of years of hiding from his family, from the world, and he was laid bare to the truth. Forced to judge himself, and not others.
So when Gabriel felt the faint crackle of Lucifer on the move, his intent, he redeemed himself.
And barreled into the eye of the storm.
