He sat in the rec room playing solitaire at a table closest to the door and seemed like he was just waiting for someone to visit him, as he had been the first two days when she came in to check on the patients after breakfast.
Gloria's previous job had been in a nursing home, so she was very familiar with residents, or patients in this case, quietly hoping day after day for visitors that never showed up.
"Good morning, Gloria," he said without looking up at her as she stood behind his chair.
"Good Morning, Mister Novak," she replied. "Enjoying your game?"
He looked at her now and tilted his head in apparent gesture of confusion. "I believe you have me confused with my vessel. My name is not Jimmy Novak. It is Castiel. But yes, I am enjoying this game. I do not believe I will be here much longer, though. Dean will show up soon to get me out of here. He didn't come yesterday, but he might have been delayed or possibly injured and just couldn't make it. Or maybe Sam will show up instead. Neither of them would just leave me in this place when I should be with them."
He said this in such a hopeful tone it almost broke her heart to hear it. She'd been warned about this when she started two days ago, of course. The reason Jimmy Novak was here was because he'd had a complete mental breakdown after the death of his wife and young daughter in a fire years ago and had been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. His other personality was a now powerless angel named Castiel, who apparently was attached to two brothers, Dean and Sam.
"Man, and they say I'm crazy. You ain't no angel and there ain't no Dean or Sam ever coming for you ," Alan Porter scoffed from a nearby table.
"Castiel" just gave the man a look and then went back to playing Solitaire and waiting.
