Hello, everyone. I’m marlex and today's theme is The Next Generation. Sooner or later, if they survive, many our heroes will mostly likely procreate. What will their children be like? What will they do? Will they follow in their parents' footsteps, or set out to blaze their own paths? Today's prompts can be any about the children of our canon characters ( Read more... )

It's weird to be on planets sometimes. Not so much the whole "differing cultures" aspect (can't be on a ship in Starfleet without encountering ten extreme cultural differences just waiting in line for the replicator in the class room), but just how backward some of their attitudes are.

Andrea likes Uncle Data. He doesn't talk down to her like the other adults and his eyes are a pretty shade of gold and he tells her almost anything she wants to know. What he doesn't tell her she knows he can't because he informs her that "Counselor Troi has not granted you access to that information yet" and Andrea knows that means Mom talked to him about it and said not to tell. But that's okay because he always helps her with her homework and convinces Uncle Geordi to let her hang around Engineering and sometimes they'll even let her help with some of the minor repairs! (She doesn't see the sleight of hand involved in switching out her poorly soldered and mainly shorted out circuit boards with working ones.)

Andrea likes Uncle Data and when the boy on the planet calls him and Uncle Geordi freaks for holding hands and uses a word that would get Andrea's mouth washed out with soap she throws a rock at the stupid dirt-grubber. She misses but Uncle Data still scoops her up protectively, murmuring a minor rebuke about throwing things at people and how everyone is entitled to their wrong opinions. He reminds her of the prime directive and tells her about how it wasn't so long ago that there was debate about whether he even counted as a person (and Andrea can't even imagine anyone looking at Uncle Data and not seeing a person).

Andrea gets her mouth washed out with soap when she calls the boy a dirt-grubber when she tells her mom about it later. Mom tells her that they have to foster unity and not animosity. Tells her that the boy probably didn't know any better and was only repeating what he'd heard from the adults he'd grown up with. Then Mom made Andrea tell her where she'd heard the term "dirt-grubber".

Mom didn't know she was watching when Mom called Mr. JHelek, but Andrea could tell he was unhappy to be called out on his prejudices by the purple color his spots turned.

Awwwwwwww, this is so sweet! I really adore the outside view of the characters here, and how true to the show it feels. Thank you so much! :D
