He runs a discrete hand down the line of Merlin's back and shoot him a quiet smile when Merlin has his armour all ready for him, or when Merlin has a hot bath waiting for him after he's trained with his knights for hours on end on the coldest, most miserable days of the winter months.
And Merlin grins his brightest when Arthur gives him that half-annoyed/half-terribly amused smirk. He sighs contentedly when Arthur pulls him in close, petting him and tracing patterns on his skin in the fire and candle light.
He gets a funny, fluttering feeling in his stomach when Arthur praises him for anything - a chore done to Arthur's pleasing or anything small enough that Merlin would think it was beneath the Prince's notice until Arthur remarks on it.
And they curl together under the blankets in Arthur's bed to while away the cold winter nights with the fire banked high and the wind and the snow and the rain howling outside and battering at the windows, and Arthur watches as Merlin lies pillowed on his chest and recreates the constellations on the ceiling.
