He'd never expected it to be so quiet. That was the one thing that finally hit him, after everyone had left, after he'd convinced his Ma to go home. How quiet it was.

There was no music, no football game on in the background, no humming, no guitar, no singing, no banging of pots and pans, no laughter, no running of lines, no coffee pot bubbling. Nothing. Just silence.

A heavy, empty silence. He grabbed the remote and switched the tv on, smiling as a Sooners game filled the screen. He looked over his shoulder, yelling out to Chris that he was missing the game. But there was no reply. Nothing. Just silence.

And that's when it hit him - Christian was gone.
