Growing up was hard on an only child, especially one that never saw it's father.
Adam had had to learn early not to rely on his mother for much because she was always working to pay the bills. She loved him and did her best to take care of him but she was never really there when he needed her.
Adam had always been a loner in school: the other kids repulsed by the neediness that lurked in his eyes and the fourth hand clothes he had to make do with.
When John had shown up, Adam thought that his prayers had finally been answered. His mother was happier and his father was the kind of man he could respect. He wasn't there all the time but whenever Adam really needed him all he had to do was call. John called at least twice a week when he was gone.
A month before Adam's 16th birthday, John stops calling. Adam calls and calls but he never gets an answer. He stops calling when he realizes John abandoned him and his Mom, again.
He's almost 19 when he's killed.
He's 19 when the angels bring him back. They explain about his brothers and he's ecstatic, he'd always wanted brothers. They tell him he has a destiny, that he can show his brothers that he's is just as powerful as they are and they will accept him more readily.
Sam and Dean arrive and they reveal the trick, the lie he's been fed and his heart breaks again.
He wants to go with them, wants the camraderie he sees between them but he is left behind, alone again.
Michael is differant, he promises he'll never leave Adam alone and Adam wants so much to believe him.
He says Yes.
Adam is never alone in his head anymore, but he's never been so lonely.
