Christian's eyes widen and he shakes his head when the receptionist gives him the room key. His hands and voice trembling, he hands her the key back and asks for a different room. He can feel the confusion rolling off Steve in waves but chooses to ignore it. The receptionist apologises to him - that's the only room they've got free tonight and he can feel his stomach cramp. He takes a step backwards, walking into Steve and grabbing their bags from the floor at his feet.

"Thanks, but... uh... we'll find somewhere else."

Steve frowns and grabs Christian's shoulder. "What're you talking about Kane? There is nowhere else. Everywhere's full because of that business symposium or whatever. This is... what... the sixth or seventh hotel we've tried and it's the only one with a vacancy. We're staying!" He flashes a grin over his shoulder at the receptionist before turning and taking the key from her. "Thank you," he says before firmly steering Christian towards the elevators. They don't speak and Steve keeps his grip on Christian's upper arm until they step into the room and Christian squirms away from him, glowering with his arms folded over his chest.

"'m not fucking staying in this room," Christian growls

"Chris..."

"What's the room number, Steve?"

Steve looks down at the key in his hand. "1408." He looks up at Christian and chuckles. "That movie still freaking you out?"

Christian ignores the jibe. "And what's the name of this hotel, Steve?"

"The.. uh... Dolph..." He breaks off when the radio alarm clock on the bedside cabinet suddenly comes to life, filling the room with The Carpenters' song We've Only Just Begun. "Oh, shit!"
