summary; Jesse finds Rachel Berry awaiting her date and stops by.
a/n; um...I'm still not sure how I feel about these two. On one hand, I love them. On the other, Jesse was a real ass to Rachel. I'm sure his characterization here is messed up but I was just trying to understand his character. Fail much? :P lol.
Jesse would be lying if he said he wasn’t surprised to see Rachel Berry sitting alone at a table for two at Breadsticks on a Friday night.
She sat tapping her fingers on the table top, sipping delicately from a glass of lemonade and from the look of glee on her face and the way her lips were pressed together at an odd angle he could tell she was humming to herself.
Jesse hesitated before walking over to her table. Rachel looked up with a bright smile on her face which immediately turned into a glare when she saw who he was. She was obviously expecting someone else.
“Jesse.” She acknowledged coldly, turning away.
“Hey.” He said, taking the empty seat opposite her.
“I didn’t say you could sit.” Rachel said pointedly.
“Are you expecting someone else?” he asked, folding his arms and leaning forward in his chair.
“As a matter of fact I am.”
“A date?” he pressed, raising an eyebrow. He wasn’t sure why the thought made him feel a little jealous. Especially since he was almost 100% sure it was Finn Hudson she was waiting for.
“I don’t see why it’s any of your business but if you must know then yes, I am expecting my date,” she replied, sticking out her chin and crossing her arms. She narrowed her eyes at him, “You were mistaken if you thought that my heart was yours to keep. Just because you broke it, doesn’t mean that I can’t find someone else who will help me put the broken pieces back together again. I’ll have you know that I am fully capable of finding another man who loves me for my sheer talent and irresistible charm and is honest and loving and…”
Jesse watched Rachel ramble on in that unique way of hers. It was like she didn’t need to pause for breath between her words. She had uncrossed her arms and was now punctuating her speech with rapid hand movements.
“…so over you.” She finished with a huff.
Jesse couldn’t help but laugh a little. Rachel seemed offended. “What’s so funny?” she demanded. And that crease between her eyebrows was just so frickin cute.
“Nothing,” Jesse replied.
He didn’t blame Rachel for her resentment towards him. He had betrayed her, cheated her and admittedly broke her heart. But her dramatic approach to everything still made him smile. It was the Rachel Berry he had known and loved and though he’d given up the look of adoration on her face when she looked at him for the acceptance and approval of his fellow Vocal Adrenaline teammates, he admitted to himself that he missed her.
But Regional’s was far too fresh in both their minds and Jesse knew this wasn’t the right time for them. Maybe someday, when they were both stars on Broadway, they’ d give it another chance.
For now, he stood up, Rachel’s eyes following him and smiled at her. “Just wanted to say that you performed well at Regional’s…even if we did beat you.” His voice was haughty and slightly mocking. Rachel glared at him. “Enjoy your date, Berry.” He winked at her and left, something painful and a little like regret weighing in his stomach.
