Science Saturday 6!

ON TIME!

Very few things make me as happy as really geeky songs, which is why They Might Be Giants is my favorite band.

Today, I will introduce you to The Amygdaloids, whose bandmembers are scientists at NYU and who play music about the brain.

This is their logo.

The amygdala is the part of the brain primarily responsible for emotion. It's sort of like a faucet; it lets through a certain amount of emotion, pushes back the negative emotion as much as possible, etc. (I learned that from Firefly.) The members of The Amygdaloids are interested in the mechanisms of emotion; the processes in the brain that produce emotion and how they interact. Their songs blend the philosophy of emotion with the science of emotion, and it's very clever. Also, they're really into puns.
