Today's A Softer World was particularly funny.
I remembered that the "con" in "con man" stood for "confidence" this morning. I was trying to remember either last night or some other time recently and now I'm glad I remembered.
There's a film called
La Jetée which is, except for a few seconds where a woman is lying in bed and blinks, composed of still photos. It's about time travel and memory. We watched it in film class and were discussing why
Chris Marker, the director, may have chosen to use still photos, and I suggested that it's because memories-- at least mine-- occur as still instances, like photos. I don't remember with motion. I may remember how someone moved, but I'll remember it as little moments, or as before-movement/after-movement, but not as fluid motion. I don't always remember when things happen. If the day is mentioned sometime around the event I remember, or if there was enough anticipation of the event, I may remember the day. I almost definitely won't remember the hour. For the most part, my memories don't exist as moments in time, just as moments.
Is this unique? Someone should let me know. Maybe it's not and that's why the comic book/graphic novel medium works.
