pseudo-editorial malrantings of a heart (and belly) lonesome

ok so i'm super insane hungry. and as it's been more or less my staple dish for most of my life.. i throw on some spaghetti. time ticks away and soon it's bubbling over, all fattened up, succulent and juicy. i begin preparing the ingredients for the current evolution of the andre spaghetti taste sensation - grated cheese, basil, oragano, onion powder, vinegar, garlic, olive oil, and the most base ingredient to which all other ingredients are a mere enhancer - rosella tomato sauce. oh shit, wait a second... i look in the cupboard and the most unimaginable catastrophy has befallen me, no tomato sauce!

like a blackout or a violent thunderstorm, it happens every once in a while, and every time the impact is just as potent and horiffic as the last. this time however, due to extreme insane brain-numbing hunger from hell, and - to make matters irreconcilably worse - NO AVAILABLE CAR, the impact is utterly devastating. my gut reels with animal howlings from the bottomless pits of starvation! never before have i actually gone without sauce! in desperation, i scour the fridges and pantry for sauce-substitutes. tomato paste - way too concentrated and a serious flavour-mismatch, spicy sauce that's been sitting there for several months and smells like it too - time to throw it out, hot chilli sauce from the burning pits of hell - i'll keep my intestines, thanks.

no, i have to face the truth: there is nothing i can acceptably substitute and achieve an edible result. defeated, i return to my little blue laptop and begin typing my woes to a friend. this friend who, as it turns out, must have some italliano blood in there somewhere, has a suggestion for me. easy, she says - use butter and whatever herbs you have from the garden. ... butter? yes, butter O_O. this is a serious deviation from the steadfast standard of staple tastebud satisfaction! (try saying that five times really fast).

but considering that there is no forseeable alternative, and the magnitude of hunger - seriously, my stomach feels like a lung frantically gasping for air! - i decide to give it a whirl. so, when the time is right, i begin the ritual as normal. cheese is generously grated on, garlic crushed, onion power, basil, oragano are sprinkled, a careful dash of basalmic vinegar, a fair sprinkle of olive oil, some freshly chopped parsley and sage, and, finally... a generous chunk of butter O_O.

so i go to my little corner of feasting, give it a thorough stir through, and finally have a taste. well gee... this is... not too bad. it's kind of... well a little mild in flavour, but thick and creamy. and as i chomp further into this intriguing creamy disaster-manifestation, i seem to be drawn into its mellow creamy flavour, a new realm of the tastebud dimension.

so, the moral to the story? somtimes running out of tomato sauce is a blessing in disguise.

:)

P.S. happy commercialised-bullshit-day..... ok... i'm just lonely :'(
