I like me some Bruce Cockburn. I like to consider him the anti-Nickleback; while Rush is more of an anti-Nickleback in terms of musical act structure, Cockburn is it in terms of thematic content. Both acts twist their music darkly, but Cockburn seems to shy from direct angst and simple themes and instead goes to this enigmatic and frankly mellow place that is at the same time frustrated, angry and yet hopeful. I guess it's the impact that the whole activism angle brings to the table.
I only really bring this up now because I bumped into this song last night and really liked it:

Amusingly, it seems that the song was the result of an experiment to write a song while drunk on absinthe, despite that the name would seem to hint more at, well,
Night Train.
