Some smart people around here have posting about punk rock lately, particularly '80s hardcore and '70s punk (see
gordonzola,
purejuice). I've had my own surprising run-in with punk rock classics lately - while watching baseball.
The playoffs are on, so I've been watching a lot of baseball on TV. If you've watched a little baseball, particularly network broadcast, you've probably heard the odd assortment of outdated music and wondered who the hell they're trying to appeal to. Well, last week I heard The Ramones' Blitzkrieg Bop, a few times, which was a shock only trumped by hearing Police On My Back by The Clash during last night's Mets/Cards game. It was a little jarring - I mean, the Ramones have a certain level of cultural saturation, but hearing a song off Sandinista, for fuck's sake, pushed it a little further than I thought Fox Sports would go.
