The shop keeper wiped his cheek when he felt a bit of spittle hit it, Zenigata practically barking at him already. Angrily, the Inspector chomped into a piece of beef jerky he had with him, likely his first meal of the day. Scowling to himself he backed down when Amarao asked to speak with him, shrinking a little as he glared at the man being near-interrogated and backed out. "He knows something! I know that he knows, and he knows that I know that he knows that's why he isn't saying anything!" Koichi rambled, mentally burning a hole in some lamp post, "I should see if he's Lupin. He's getting on my nerves damn well enough." With half the mind to storm back in there and start tugging at the shop keep's face, he looked over at Amarao. "Whaddya want now?" He finally asked, a little steam released.
"I think he knows something, too... But perhaps we should play it cool. I could make it look like I'm talking you into checking somewhere else. Then we could set up some subtle surveillance..."
As Amarao spoke, he made motions that would indicate to the man inside and anyone watching that he was planning on going somewhere else.
"I'm behind you one-hundred percent, Koichi-kun."
He reached up and patted the inspector's shoulder then, giving him a genuinely admiring look for his dogged determination over his bright yellow frames.
If it didn't make so much sense, Koichi might have had an argument lined up purely out of habit. He'd been known to try to beat Lupin at his own underhanded game, but Zenigata was always iffy on depending on technology for it. Maybe there was a tree he could camp out in... He looked about to reply until he was called Koichi-kun, voice stopping in its tracks and trying not to let the confusion register on his face. A blink and he remembered there was a question to be answered. Dark eyes darted to the side away from steel blues for reasons unexplained. "If you'd think that would work," he answered though it almost sounded like he was talking to himself. He looked around and over his shoulder, nothing jumping out at him as 'hideout' just yet. "So what do we do now? Just walk away? Or are we supposed to go in and tell him he's off the hook?" he asked begrudgingly.
Amarao watched the switch in Zenigata's expression, and then glanced over his shoulder into the shop and made a dismissive gesture concerning the guy. "I'll just act like we're not interested in him anymore."
He started down the sidewalk, generally walking away from the store with an overly determined look on his face. "So, you really think that it might have been Lupin in a mask?" Feasible. Maybe.
He put his arms behind his head. "He'll just run off if we corner him, if it was. We could also try to break into their storage room..."
What Amarao didn't know was that monkey-like fiend wasn't in disguise in the shop. He was in disguise as a newspaper vender just a block down, and was tipping down round Elton John glasses to watch the pair walk at a distance. "When did Pops get a new girlfriend?"
