Mun: How does your character deal with losing someone close to them?
Rose will deal and move on but she hates that aspect of her life. If she could change it she would. The prime example of that is her father's death. It wasn't like Rose had planned to save his life. She really did just want to be there with him when he died like she told the Doctor. The thing is though how could you just stand by and watch? You can't.
It also depends on the circumstances. With Doomsday, she was perfectly fine to be cut off from her mum sending her to Pete's World. Of course, part of that was the knowledge that Mickey would be there and her mum would be with Pete. She wouldn't be alone.
Mickey staying behind in Rise of the Cybermen was hard for Rose but she knew that she had to let him find his way just as she had with the Doctor. I also, think in the back of her mind that she hoped, despite what the Doctor said, that she would be able to see him again.
Here is where I diverge from some popular fanon thoughts. I do not believe that Rose spent her time trying to find a way to get back to the Doctor after Doomsday. Rose is selfish and there would always be a hint of trying to find a way back to him, but I don't think it would become her White Whale. Rose definitely took advantage of the cracks in reality when the stars began to go out to get what she wanted but if that had never happened she wouldn't have created it.
In Journey's End, if Rose truly hadn't thought that the Doctor was right then nothing on this Earth would have stopped her from leaving v2.0 in Pete's World and traveling about with Ten and Donna. Rose is stubborn and selfish at times yet understands when it's time to let go. She will do the right thing.
