There once was a girl who could conquer the world. At least, she thought she could.
There once was a boy who could conquer this girl. At least, she thought he could. She
thought he could do no wrong; blinded by loving eyes. Often, she speculated her name changed to
his. Such a girlish thing to do, you would suppose, for a tomboy.
There once was a girl who could conquer the world. Well, she didn't know for sure.
There once was a boy who could conquer this girl. He was pretty sure of it. Long, flowing brown
hair and matching eyes; he often speculated where they would have their first kiss.
There once was a teenage girl who could conquer the world. Actually, she didn't even
begin to know where the world started. So lost in her own knowledge that she couldn't tell night from
day.
There once was a teenage boy who could conquer this girl. Nothing could change his
mind. His schedule revolved around her. Lost in his words, he never made a sound; only
regretting the fact that her feelings weren't the same anymore.
There once was a college girl who could conquer the world. That is, once she finished
drinking away her sorrows. The city rained on her; a heavy burden for a 20-year old.
There once was a college boy who could conquer this girl. That is, once he found
himself. Loneliness and separation overcame him; a heavy burden for a 20-year old.
There once was a working girl who could conquer the world. She just had to get past
the mailroom. That would be easy for her, though, because she was beautiful and her boss was
getting tired of his wife.
There once was a working boy who could conquer this girl. He just had to stop doubting
himself. Being a nurse is a perfectly respectable profession for a male, he often said to himself.
He didn't believe it.
There once was a woman who could conquer the world. She would try later; she was too
busy fixing her nose and thighs in a mess of blood and surgeons.
There once was a man who could conquer this woman. Maybe he would show her one of
the poems he wrote for her when he was little. Maybe he would show her how sorry he was for
not dating her when they were 5 because he thought girls were icky. Maybe she would see that he's always been there, holding his heart in the palm of his hand.
There once was an old woman who could conquer the world. It's a shame she didn't.
There once was an old man who could help this woman conquer the world, but he didnt'.
What a shame.
