The Trial by
Rob Rinder My rating:
5 of 5 stars Once in a while a book comes along that is so ridiculously brilliant, you don't want it to end. Well, here it is. Step aside Mr Grisham. Rob Rinder has written the definitive courtroom drama. Not surprising really as a qualified barrister (lawyer for our American friends) with unprecedented knowledge of the legal system, the Old Bailey and Inns of Court and he uses it here with his first novel The Trial. This is a superb courtroom drama, with murder and deception in the Old Bailey.
When DI Grant Cliveden, a hero in the public eye, dies from poisoning in the Old Bailey the evidence points to one man. Jimmy Knight, convicted of multiple offences before and released from prison just ten days before the murder. To defend him will be no easy task, not least because this is the first major case for trainee barrister Adam Green, on a defence team headed by his philandering, pupil tutor KC Jonathan Taylor-Cameron, who will find every opportunity to put Adam down. Total arsehole.
Nothing is as it seems though as it becomes clear that Jimmy Knight is not the only person in Cliveden's past to have an axe to grind...
This is a trial that will push Adam - and the justice system itself - to the limit...
And the twist come the end - never saw that coming! Audacious and completely unexpected! A tour-de-force from Mr Rinder!
