Heimdall saw all from his vantage point in Asguard. He saw wars being raged upon the Svaltheim, the dark elves amassing weapons the likes of which he had never seen before. He saw Odin drinking in the great hall, laughing though there was a sadness on his face that never quite seemed to leave. He saw the All-Father's pain as he wept alone for the sons he lost, both Thor and Loki in turn. He saw the doubts that Frigg and him voiced when they were alone together, that perhaps Thor would leave them to live an eternity in Midguard, that perhaps Loki was too maddened by his encounter beyond the branches of Yggdrasil to ever be saved. He saw the Frost Giants burying their dead after the battle's end, a pain which did not evoke any pity in Heimdall but he saw none-the-less.

He saw more intimate things too. It wasn't so much what he looked for, but he couldn't stop his eyes from wandering into those shadowy rooms. It was just so tempting to see what others tried so desperately to hide, both from themselves and the world. He saw the Trickster Loki tying Sif to the bed, unbeknownst to Thor. They both would whisper things that only they, and Heimdall, could hear, about how they loved each other though the Aesir would never accept them together. Soft growls sounded loud in the night that would be gone when morning came and both would separate pretending that they hated each other in the public eye. So she had fallen back into bad habits it seemed. Sooner or later their secret would come out, though Heimdall would not be the one to speak of it. Not that Thor was without secrets. Try as Thor might to hide on Midguard nothing was ever truly hidden from Heimdall's all-seeing eyes. He saw Thor fall in love with the mortal Jane. He would hold her tight at night as the winds rages around them and tell her that she was the only one he thought he could be truly honest around, though he kept half of his life secret from her.

Heimdall saw all of this with his eyes and yet he said nothing. It was not his place.
Occasionally Thor would ask him "Heimdall, what do you see?"

"I see life, god of thunder," is all he would ever reply with.
