"So there you have out," Clark says, releasing a breath that comes out long and whistling.
"Jonathan," Martha warns, placing a hand on her husband's forearm, "go easy on him. Remember we were young once, too."
"He didn't do anything wrong, Martha. If he'd been kissing Lana or Chloe or any girl, that damn Principal wouldn't have fussed! It's only because he was caught kissing a boy behind the bleachers that he suspended him from school, and believe me, I'm going to talk to him first thing Monday. The football players did worse back there, even in my day!"
Martha's face turns red. "Jonathan!"
Jonathan shrugs. "It's true."
"So you're not mad?" Clark asks, voice almost trembling.
"Not at all. Clark, I'm your father. I'm gonna love you no matter what."
"We both will," Martha interjects, squeezing her husband's arm with a smile that tells both husband and son that she's proud of them.
"But I do have one question for you."
"Anything," Clark replies eagerly, so relieved that his parents accept even in this difference in him.
That's when Jonathan blasts, voice suddenly loud enough to tear the house from its hinges. "Why in the Hell did it have to be a Luthor?!"
