She gazes down into her new daughter's beautiful face, her heart swelling. "Scott," she whispers softly, looking at her husband, "do you feel it?"
He wraps his arms around her and their first child together. "Yes, honey. It's . . . magical," he says for lack of a better word.
She nods, her red head moving against his chest, but she keeps her further thoughts to herself. It isn't because she doesn't want to share them with him. She does, but she's not exactly sure what to voice what she's feeling. She's almost grown accustomed to being killed and coming back to life. The Phoenix force within her is a source of constant rebirth.
She feels like that again, like she's rising from the ashes, but there's something else about it, too, something different, something better, something . . . grander. She kisses her baby's forehead. "Welcome home, Rachel," she whispers to her, and then it dawns on her. It isn't just a rebirth for her. This time, she's sharing it with her child, and out of everything she's experienced as a grown woman, a wife, an X-Man, and the Phoenix, this is the most magical of them all.
She sighs happily. Scott kisses her hair. "Yes, darling," he agrees with everything he's sensed in her through their mindlink. "All that more." Jean smiles; she's the happier she's ever been and, she knows, ever will be. "We're finally a family."
