Rhodey walked down to the basement of the familiar house of his friend, the house that he had walked through countless times before. This time felt different though. There were still piles of wires and plating, but this time everything was scattered about haphazardly. Seeing that worried him more than Tony's freakout earlier on in the day. They had been hanging out and having a few drinks when the news had blared the Ultron situation across the bar. Without so much as a word to him Tony had left the bar.
"Tony? You down here?" He called through the metal halls.
"Yeah, here." came a muffled sound.
Rhodey turned the corner and saw Tony at work welding something, though what it was incomprehensible at the moment. "What are you doing?"
"If I can fix the wiring in this model maybe I can take out most of the computers and go really old school on this robot."
"This is about Pym's Ultron mistake, right?"
Tony scoffed, "What about Pym isn't a mistake?" He started to weld again, sending sparks skittering across the floor.
"You're acting real strange. It's beginning to freak me out."
Tony stopped welding. He lifted the mask and looked at Rhodey, "I just need to fix this whole mess, okay?"
"Yeah, we all do. No one likes being hunted by super intelligent robots."
"I just need to fix it more than other people. His mistake could have easily been my mistake."
Something clicked in Rhodey's head. He moved closer to Tony and sat down beside him. "And you feel guilty because you should have seen this coming.”
"I was working directly with him. How did I miss all the signs that something was going wrong?"
Rhodey put a hand on Tony's shoulder, giving it a small squeeze for reassurance, "No one saw this happening Tony. Pym is a mad man and good at keeping secrets, but you need to think about what you are doing. Maybe another suit isn't the solution to the problem."
Tony shot his friend a glare, "So what am I supposed to do? Just sit here while everybody else is saving the world without me? I don't like being helpless."
"I can't blame you. The world is a scary place for us normal folk."
That got a snort out of Tony, "Never call me normal. The press might start to think I am accessible."
"Just take a step back; I'm sure the answer will come to you. You are more than your suits. Maybe you can find another way to support your friends while they battle."
A glint came into Tony's eyes, "You're right I am more than my suits."
"I'm wha-" Rhodey started; shocked that Tony would actually admit someone else was right. Then he caught Tony's eye and saw the fire burning in it. He loved that mad sort of genius fire, that’s when problems got both solved and made. "That's the fire I like to see! Now let's get to work!"
