Summary:Tony wakes up to an empty bed and a note, his mind races to the worst possibilities.
Tony rolled over in bed and stretched his limbs with a satisfied groan. He rarely got mornings where he got to sleep in; despite his carefree demeanor he still put a lot of work into maintaining his businesses and trying his best to keep the world from imploding in on itself. As his arm outstretched though he grew confused. Why was there so much room on the bed? Where was Pepper?
He opened his eyes and sat up, finding the bed as empty as he had first thought it to be. Swinging his legs out of the bed he looked on the bedside table and saw a Post-It-Note that read:"Tony, please don't be man. - Pepper". He looked at it quizzically for a moment, his mind racing with possibilities of what could possibly be going on. The thought of what could be going on put him on edge. He didn't grab a robe or even bother to put on pants as he walked out of his room.
The sounds of shuffling were heard in his living room and on instinct he pushed himself to the wall, surveying the decorations and weighing which would be the easiest to use as a weapon. He grabbed a metal Iron Man statue in his right hand and made his way towards the sound of voices coming from his living room. He could hear one getting very close to the wall where he was pressed and he acted quickly, turning the corner and swinging the statue hard
"Easy there," Natasha answered, catching his statue and rolling with the punch, "We're not here to kill you this time."
Tony looked around and could see banners and streamers hanging from his ceiling. A small crowd of people had been busy hanging them up everywhere, but had paused as soon as the attack had happened. A moment of realization flooded back to him as he pieced together the fact that today was his birthday. He had told Pepper he didn't want a surprise, that it wouldn't be good for him right now.
"Tony," Pepper said, stepping forth from his friends, "I wanted to surprise you for your birthday."
"I think we're all surprised," Clint called out from the crowd, "Never took you for a briefs man, Tony."
Tony paused for a moment and then laughed as the worry went away from the moment, "Someone get me a drink, let's get this party started then."
"Don't you want to get pants on first?" Pepper noted.
He looked up and sighed, "Well if you insist." A button was pressed and a small animatronic drone came by with a pair of jeans and shirt for him. He got dressed in the living room and sat down, trying to pretend like he didn't just try to kill one of his coworkers with a statue and that the party didn't just see him in his underwear. The moment was too ridiculous to be mad at Pepper for trying to do a good thing.
