He sits alone in his room, his past playing in his head as he runs long, gray fingers down his piece. He remembers all he's lost. He remembers all the things that've happened to him that shouldn't've happened but did. He remembers learning he was a mutant and how his life forever changed.

More than anything else, he remembers her. He remembers sharing his first kiss with her. He remembers leading their gang and mistakenly thinking they were more of a family. He remembers the night everything changed and recalls vividly not just how he hurt her but also how she's hurt him worse and more recently.

He knows it isn't over. He knows she'll show up again. She's far from being done with him. She'll hurt all the people who are stupid enough to care about him just to get to him. She might even kill them. She's not the girl she was; perhaps, she was never the girl he thought she was.

He can't bear for another person to be hurt because of him. He's so weary of all the violence and pain, all the lies and terrible deeds. He just wants it to be over. He knows if his life is over, some of it will continue, but he won't know about it and none will be because of him. No one will miss him, he lies to himself, and those who call themselves his friend now will never know the pain Torres can bring them.

There are other ways. He could fight her. He could come clean with his teammates and headmasters. He could tell them what she's really like and what he was. He can tell them what will happen. Torres would never be a match for Emma. But he doesn't want them to know what they brought into their team, their school, this group that's supposed to be like a makeshift family or so he's been told. He doesn't want them to know the real him.

He stares down into the barrel of a gun as he thinks all this and more. There's nothing left in this world, nothing he deserves, nothing --

"Yo, Angie! Ya comin' for this marathon, dude, or what? I've already popped the popcorn! Come on!"

Jubilee doesn't deserve this, he thinks suddenly. She's done her best, more than anybody else, even Paige, to help him feel like he fits in here. She's the closest friend he's ever had, and he knows she's been hurt many times before. Angelo lays down his piece and leaves his room. He won't do it, not while he's still here, not while she's still here, caring about him.

Well done, Jubilation.

Geez, Frostie, it ain't like Angie's the only freak I've talked down.

Sean?

I've already got it, Em, but th' lad can buy another one.

We'll just have to make sure we don't let him.

Nae as simple as that.

No. We just gotta be here for him. Now shut up. The movie's startin'.

The End
