There they stood, four of them against the world in a ramshackle wooden house by a creek in the middle of the woods. The wood groaned as the wind howled through the cracks in the boards. It wasn't much, just a two room house, but it was home for them. It had to be ever since their old homes were all destroyed.

"You know, I always thought that the world would end in zombies." Tony said, scanning the skies for any threats. There was nothing but the chirping of birds.

"Why zombies?" Clint asked, scanning the opposite side of the house's skies. A flower shaped cloud passed over head.

"I figured with all the movies and comics on zombies that it had to happen. So many idiots saying something has to be right, that idea."

"Think we'd do any better aganist zombies?"

"I was prepared for zombies. I had my basement lab, suits of armor, a well stocked kitchen, Jarvis. We could have ridden the whole thing out in style."

The door creaked open and Tony and Clint tensed, preparing to shoot the next thing that walked through the door. To their relief it was only Bruce, with a bucket full of mud.

"Good to see you to." He said with a smile as he looked down Hawkeye's bow. The weapons lowered.

"Where were you?" Clint asked casually.

"I was getting something to fix that howling. I can't sleep at night with it screaming at me all the time."

"Yeah he already has one voice in his head. He doesn't need any more." Tony butted in.

Bruce grimaced. "Don't remind me. The Other Guy has been quiet lately. I'd like to keep him that way."

Mud was smeared on the cracks, slowly quieting the place. "All that science education is doing you wonders out here." Tony said, a touch bitterly.

"Laugh all you want, but when I'm warm inside the windproof cabin you can be the first to sleep outside." He smirked.

The door to the cabin slammed open. Before them stood Natasha in combat fatigues, breathless.

"We have to go. Now!" She commanded, grabbing batteries from a side table and putting them in her pockets.

"Why?" Tony asked, even as he was preparing to move yet again."

"I was patrolling and I saw them."

"Who?"

"The Chitauri. They've got a hive mother with them."

"Did they follow you here?" Clint sounded angry.

"I don't think they saw me, but I know they saw the cabin."

"I knew we were here for too long." Bruce said, dropping the mud to the ground.

"There a back door to this place?" Natasha asked, forcing herself to be calm.

"No, gonna have to use the front door," Tony commanded, leading the charge, "Let's go."

An explosion shook the creaky wooden walls and dirt rained on the roof.

"Too late. Prepare for war boys." Natasha said, drawing her guns.

They all held their breath, hoping that they could see this through to the end.
