Comic Cons!

Jan 28, 2010 20:07

A lot of comic conventions take place during the year. Some bigger than others. The biggest one being San Diego Comic Con.

I was wondering how many of you have actually been to one, and what was your experience like?

If you've never been, do you plan to attend one year?

I've attended San Diego's Comic Con International every year for the last six or seven years, and I'm going this year as well. It's the highlight of my year. CCI is huge. I mean, they open up every inch of the Convention Center and that place is just so big. Last year I hung out a lot at the DC booth and met so many of my favorite authors and artists (and got pictures with all of them, too...my favorite is one of me sandwiched between Gail Simone and Geoff Johns). They also have a huge section just for people to sell comics and memorobelia. I kept going back to a booth that sold $5 TPB and picked up so many DC titles (I spent $80 there between TPBs and cheap single issues).

And there's other stuff, too. Into anime? They have booths for that. Into TV and movies? Bunches of booths there (in fact, the Warner Bros booth gives away the huge bags you just have to have, and I got one with "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" on one side and Batman: The Brave and the Bold on the other one). If you can imagine it and it's related to pop culture ( ... )

SO JEALOUS OF YOU! San Diego Comic Con is like that convention you get a piggy bank for and say I'm going one year. Basically doing that now. lmao

I live in north San Diego County so it's just a train ride down for me to attend, and I get a monthly train pass anyway. Though they raised their prices and the four day passes sold out before I had a chance to get one, which bummed me out. I'm going on Thursday and Friday this year.

I went to NYC's Comic-Con last year, and will hopefully be going to this year's when it comes around in October.

If you're curious, I made a long picspam of my adventures if you want to check it out here. I just made the post public in my journal.

But bottom line, if you ever get a chance to go, do it. It's crazy fun with the costumes, you want to buy everything you see, panels are awesome, and you can get plenty of free comics. :)

I hear NYC Comic-Con is growing! I'm in Delaware and last year I went to Wizard World and it was my first ever comic-con and it was pretty dull so the boyfriend and I are thinking of going to the NYC one. It's about a two hour drive so not too bad.

From your pictures it looks so much fun though! Thanks for sharing!

It's pretty impressive, and that was my first time, and it was just os amazing, I loved it. Funny thing was, I almost went for just one day. It was my friend, who I went with, who convinced me to get the weekend pass. Definitely go, you will not be disappointed. I was pretty impressed with the guest list, for comics, TV, and film, considering the size of it.

My dream of course is to go to San Diego, but I'll have to save for that since it's on the other side of the country.

You're welcome! Always happy to share and revel in the geekiness. :D

Yeah, I went to Baltimore Comic-Con (BCC) last year, and I just loved it. It's mostly a DC/Wildstorm/Image affair, with no Marvel backing. Last year they hat Brian Michael Bendis and he was pretty much it for them ( ... )

I have never been to a con. Sadly, it's not in my price range. Plus, I'm secretly afraid I'd wind up on one of those Rotten Tomatoes photo blogs, my boss would see me, and I'd get fired.

They do look like fun though *sigh*
