I fixed up Alycia's bike and rode it on the Capital Crescent Trail on Sunday. I rode into Bethesda and then down the Trail to the 8 Mile Marker, where Fletcher's Boat House is. I don't know how many miles that is, because I think for some reason it's not 8, but then I rode back and it felt so great. Caroline, how many miles is that ( Read more... )

the mile markers start out in silver spring. by bethesda i am going to assume you mean across from barnes and nobles. a little past on the other side of the tunnel (toward silver spring in the 3.5 marker) and right where the path crosses falls road/the bethesda pool is the 4 mile marker. the 4.5 mile marker is right before the birdge going over river road. 5 is near the bridge over mass ave. 5.5 is near where the trail goes over some trails by a neighborhood. then theres another tunnel and marker 6 right at a water fountain. then you have another bridge and leave montgomery county. 6.5 is in the bushes. 7 and 7.5 are also just in trees (but the markers are usually visible). i assume you did see mile marker 8. so going out and back from bethesda is about 9 miles total. in the other direction 3 is around conn ave. also, although it smells at some places, the canel trail is also an excellent place to bike since it goes for much longer than the crescent trail. if you hit the canal trail you are at around mile 8 from the one-lane bridge. if you go left you once you get to the trail, you are going towards dc and the mile markers will be going down. im really happy you are getting into biking. also if you ride at night, do you have proper lights? i dont know dc laws but in or you have to have lights by law.

I haven't biked at night because it's true I don't have a light and, unlike walking, I'd rather bike with plenty of light. I did race around the neighborhood for 20 minutes at about midnight just to get it out of my system, but I plan for the most part to take it out during the day. Thanks for the info, Helpful Caroline.
