Chocolate-Walnut Rum Balls

1c semi sweet chocolate chips (about 6oz)
1c sugar
3T lite corn syrup
1/2 or little more dark rum
2.5c finely crushed vanilla wafer cookies (about 10oz - almost full box)
1c finely chopped walnuts (about 4oz)

Stir chocolate in top of double boiler over simmering water until melted, then remove.
Whisk in 1/2 cup sugar and corn syrup, then the rum.
Mix wafers & walnuts to blend.
Add chocolate mix & stir to blend well.
Place remaining sugar in shallow bowl.
Roll 1 scant T chocolate mix into 1" balls.
Roll balls in sugar, cover & refrigerate at least overnight and up to 5 days.
