Nana Ethel's Creamy Potato Fluff

1 8oz Cream Cheese
4 cups hot mashed potatoes
garlic
1 egg, beaten
1/3rd cup finely chopped onion, green
1 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
3/4 can diced chilies (optional)

Boil garlic and add mashed to potatoes. Combine cheese, softened, and potatoes, mixing until well blended. Stir in remaining ingredients, place in 1 qt. casserole, bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Grate cheddar cheese on top, or sprinkle with fried onions.
