Room 218, Friday Evening

Oct 05, 2007 17:22

It was a good thing, really, that Beauty had plans for the night. Because after her day at the fair and then her handwavy trip to the spa with Annette, she was far too wound up to have just stayed in her room studying. She doubted she'd even be able to sleep that night ( Read more... )

A.J. had maybe fussed a lot with his tie (sea-foam-ish green, like Beauty had said) a lot, but he didn't fuss at all with his hair and he ended up deciding against the fedora Cher suggested because, come on. His hair was just too perfect today, really. He had some flowers and one of those corsage things that matched his tie since he didn't know the exact color of the dress, but he tried, and he was starting to feel pretty nervous, which was weird, but he had a feeling it might have had something to do with his, ahem, meeting with Beauty earlier that day. Either way, he had to take a bit of a breath before he raised his fist to knock on the door.

He half expected the weird roommate to answer and tell him that Beauty wouldn't be ready for another fifteen minutes, because wasn't that always what girls were like?

Adah was moddedly omg! not there, which meant that Beauty jumped when the silence of the room was broken by the knock, and then she barely avoided whacking her knee into the desk when she hurried to answer it.

Flinging the door open -- because OMG it was probably A.J. and what if he laughed at how she looked or hated the color? -- Beauty greeted him with a nervous smile and resisted the urge to push her hand through her hair. "Come in?"

A.J. stood there for a moment, blinking through the doorway. She looked absolutely...

"...Wow."

Yup. That just about covered it. But his lack of poeticness about the situation left him blushing a bit, ducking his head and running a hand through his hair sheepishly. "I mean, uh...or you could come out?" He offered, turning slightly to offer his arm to her. "If I'm not mistaken, we do have somewhere to be right now."

Right! That made the most sense, didn't it? Beauty tried not to look as flustered as she felt, especially after that very complimentary reaction. "Let me just grab my wrap," she said, smiling excitedly.

She ducked back into the room and grabbed the shawl off the bed, and then pulled the door closed and took A.J.'s arm. "You look really nice."

"Thank you," A.J. said, smiling as he added, "And you look incredible. Here." He held the flowers out to her, a bit awkwardly, biting his lip, hoping she liked them. The green, he figured, would compliment the color scheme (always important) and they were roses, so it would be just a matter of if Beauty could get rosed-out. "These are for you."

Beauty's eyes shone at the compliment. "I'm glad you think so. I've never worn anything like this before." She took the flowers, holding them up to her face and inhaling. "A.J., thank you so much. These are so beautiful."

She bit her lip in thought, and then added, "Wait just a minute." Very carefully, she pulled one of the cream colored roses and a bit of the floral wire from the bouquet and fastened the rose into A.J.'s buttonhole. "There, I'll bet you didn't know you were getting your own as well."

A.J. grinned at the addition. "I didn't!" he commented. "I like it. Looks good?" He straightened, pulling on the jacket a little with his free hand.

"Very handsome," Beauty said, and she meant it. She thought A.J. looked dashing in his suit. "We never did get a chance to practice dancing."

Nope; but A.J. was definitely feeling like it was time better spent. "Wouldn't worry about it," he assured her. "You'll get out there and you'll just know what to do and you'll be having too much fun to care, or else I'm not doing this thing right."

"Well, I'm already having fun, so I'm sure you're doing it exactly right," Beauty replied, feeling like she probably could do all those things. And already forgetting to worry about her dress, or whether her hair would stay put.

"Good," A.J. beamed, biting his lip just a little bit, happily. "Well, then, my lady, shall we?"
