There was this little blonde Jew-girl. Actually, she was half-Catholic and half-Jewish, but it is simply easier to refer to her as the Jew.
This Jew found herself standing at the edge of a cliff one day. The path she'd been following suddenly dead-ended. As she leaned over, she couldn't see the bottom. A thick, grey smoke started a few inches below the precipice, obscuring everything beyond. For a while, the Jew simply stood there, unsure of what to do.
Behind her was a thick forest, a dark forest. She had only recently emerged from its confines, having strayed something fierce from her way. While stumbling through the woods, she'd managed to cut herself up fairly badly. Thinking about it, the Jew ran her fingers over the scars on her arms. Those weren't the only ones. She had several on her ears, nose, lips, and back. The woods had not been kind.
The Jew sighed. She feared the woods, and normally nature was something in which she found solace. Nature, as she remembered it from so long ago, was one of the most beautiful gifts in life. As she pondered, a soft breeze began wafting in from the East. She turned towards it, unclipped her hair, and sighed. It felt wonderful, cool, comforting. Slowly, it gained strength, and the clouds above and the smoke started to move. Flakes of mud began peeling off her body. Beneath, for the first time in years, she saw the golden tan she remembered so well. Lately, all she had seen were brown and shades of grey.
She closed her eyes, smiling, bracing herself against what was now a gale. She was excited. She felt alive.
A few minutes later, the wind died down, and she glanced around and at herself. She now stood in the sunlight, and she was clean. Her hair had returned to golden. The woods were still dark, but now they seemed distant. Her gaze drifted over to the edge, and she saw beneath a lush valley. Even from this high up, she saw butterflies, flowers, pretty things, things which made her laugh as a child. She took a step closer, the balls of her feet now upon the edge, and she looked straight down. Below her was a river.
She knew that she could drown, but that valley was so enticing...
The Jew stood still for a second, weighing her options. Behind her were the woods. By now, she knew them. She knew some areas were safer than others. She had even collected a few leaves from trees which made her feel the safest. Before her was the valley. It was familiar and yet unknown. To get there, though, she'd have to jump.
And she hated heights. The woods were the easy way out.. but...
The Jew closed her eyes, held her breath, and jumped...
