My Involvement with Fae Fatales: A Fantasy Noir Anthology

Mar 25, 2013 15:18

Over the past 11 days, Fae Fatales: A Fantasy Noir Anthology has been up on Indiegogo, doing nicely with contributions from people who want to see the book in print. As I write this, it is at 80% funded, with 19 days to go. We’d really love to see it fully funded early so we can start organising stretch rewards - additional perks that everyone can ( Read more... )

This is all really exciting.

I don't know exactly what to say about your difficulties in attracting investors... I wonder if people don't realize that their money will be refunded if the campaign doesn't work.

What I do know how to respond to is the contributions to the front page itself, which are priceless. Thank you for those. You are super-talented.

Well this post seemed to produce an extra $50/2 books sold. I don't recognise the name though so I don't know if it's someone from my LJ friendslist whose name I don't know, or if it's from someone who saw my tweet about this post (I hash tagged it and a friend retweeted it, and I also don't even know who all of my followers are). We're $249 away now!

I don't know. That question is answered on the campaign page now though, if they bother to read it.

<3 You're welcome! I enjoyed putting that part together. It helped me feel like I was contributing a bit more, since I hadn't been able to manage getting many backers before that point.

I am telling people flat-out that it will be refunded. I assume that people don't read it if they're only interested in helping me.

Ahh. Yeah. Hmm. I can't remember if I've said that in any of my direct interactions. I just checked the email I sent to my MIL though, who did get a copy, and I didn't say anything about it then. So I don't know that it's a necessary thing. I guess that because I want the book to succeed, I'm not really thinking about the alternative.

The title and tagline are great, and I think the copy on the campaign page is SIGNIFICANTLY improved. It feels much more real and compelling now. Nice job.

Thanks! I couldn't have done it without help from most of the others. :)

I agree with figmentj that it reads a whole lot better with all the extra stuff you've put on, information about the authors, etc. It really made it a much more professional project, whereas before it was hard to imagine it as a 'proper' book, you know? Now I could totally imagine walking into a bookshop and buying a copy.

Those were the sorts of comments I got that led me to write what I did. Hopefully that also made it easier for other people to pick up a copy online! Re: the bookstore aspect... hmm, maybe I should ask my friend who said he'd stock my novel if he'd be interested in stocking this one too.
