Given the slowness of my reading speed, it's been pretty impossible for me to even attempt to read everything that is submitted for LJ Idol. I'm sure I've skipped over some absolute gems, including some from my favourite competitors. However, I think that despite that, there are some pieces that have stuck with me over the past several weeks, and thus I feel if they can stand the tests of time, there's a good chance of them being up on my favourites from this season.
To start, I want to include my favourite entry from the only remaining competitor that I'll be including in this list (that doesn't mean I dislike the other competitors, so please don't be offended!) most recently eliminated competitor (I wrote this before the polls closed, obviously).
1.
mstrobel did a masterful job with bringing us into Maarlijn's world during this season, from varying perspectives, and I think that she crafted that so well. My favourite entry about Maarlijn, though, was her
open topic entry in week 19 where we learned about the healing process of her kind. A close second favourite, though, would be her
Precognition entry simply because it shows a side of Maarlijn's world that I wish was normal in our own.
2. It probably shouldn't be a secret that
joeymichaels has been one of the highlights of this season of Idol for me. So maybe I'm going to come across as incredibly biased by listing his
Place that Cannot Be entry as my favourite, considering it was the entry he wrote when we partnered together during the Valentine's week. That, of course, isn't the reason it's my favourite. The piece involves time travel and uses the characters I wrote about from my entry that week (which is linked to his entry and is suggested prior reading), but the time travel aspect is handled so amazingly well that I can't help remember it. And though I don't want to make this a
joeymichaels lovefest, I am also so inclined to link two other memorable entries,
week 10's open topic and
week 2's Uphill, Barefoot, Both Ways.
3.
lawchicky didn't really come to my attention until she intersected with
joeymichaels (are you sensing a theme, yet? LOL), and I really enjoyed that entry in week 12, but I totally fell in love with her for her
Sexual Ethics entry the following week, which is even obvious from my comment on that post where I mention fangirling her. Then again, she was just brilliant with partnerships because I also adored her collaboration with
crimsonplum the following week about Angelino's family restaurant, where she chose
Precognition.
4. Of course, another highlight from this season, for me, was
oneonthefence. If you happen to be on her friends list, re-live the glory of her
I Don't Care About Apathy entry, which she wrote for the first intersection in week 12. I know she was more known for her personal life stories, and I loved those, too, but this entry stood out particularly because it wasn't a story from her life, and used a lot of humour that I appreciated.
5. I can't help it, I'm too self-centred not to link my favourite of my own entries. It may not be the best of my entries from this season, but I have friends-locked the majority of my entries and I wanted to link something everyone could see. Even so, my
Failure to Communicate entry was one of my personal highlights from the season because it was the week LJ Idol got me to do something I've wanted to do for quite some time - write a comedy song, and then film a music video for it. The song is about the differences in slang between American English and Australian English. My screenplays were also a highlight for me for a similar reason - the prompts got me to work on particular creative endeavours I'd been meaning to get around to. I'm not always the most organised person in the world, but I do also have an
index of all my Idol entries - in competition and for the home game - that you are welcome to peruse in your leisure. Like I said, though, some of them are friends locked.
