Oooooooh! It was WONDERFUL! I loved it! It just had everything a musical should have: fantastic singing, amazing dancing and pretty damn good acting!!! The latter was a bit of a surprise considering that Lance Bass played Corny Collins and Ashley Parker Angel played Link!
When I saw them on the posters outside I was prepared for the worst but they were pretty good! Angel in particular was really good as Link. Turns out he's a really good dancer and his singing is not half bad! Bass was pretty good but it's a small role so he didn't have much stage time.
Edna was played by some dude from MadTV and he was awesome! He totally broke off and ad-libbed during his duo with Tracy's dad (played by Beaver of Leave it to Beaver!). Tracy was great, amazing voice...except that she wasn't fat. She was not skinny but she was obviously wearing padding. Boo.
I think the one that stole the show was Penny Pingleton. That girl had a voice that was out of this world! And Motormouth Mabel. She was fantastic!
What I really loved was that they ended each number and paused for applause and then they would sing a few more bars! Stuff that wasn't on the score! It made me light-headed in a swoon of musical nerdity!
It was just a fantastic show, everything that a musical should be! The kind of thing that brings you to your feet! I had a horrible headache the whole night and I was still clapping and dancing and bopping! Another triumph! I LOVE BROADWAY!!!!
